Häromdagen fick jag ett mail från Max Götz, en tysk bosatt utanför München. Han har precis kommit tillbaka från en vinterutflykt till Båstnäs – och han gjorde verkligen en stor ansträngning för att komma dit.

Max och en vän reste med bil från München, en sträcka på ungefär 200 mil. Efter 50 timmars bilkörning var de framme i Töcksfors, övernattade på vandrarhemmet och upplevde sedan skroten.

Här är ett utdrag ur Max fina skildring av sin upplevelse av skroten:

”I decided to go on a 72 hour trip to Båstnäs with a good friend of mine, 2000 km from Munich. We drove 50 hours altogether, had a short stop at the Volvo Museum in Goeteborg, slept a bit in the youth hostel in Töcksfors, saw young guys drifting around in old Volvos Saturday night, and arrived at the junkyard early in the morning, when it was still totally dark.

It was important for me, to be alone out there. It was snowing a bit, everything was quite perfect, but then I understood, how many people walk around there now, what they do to the wrecks and the houses and I felt a bit sad.

So we left at around one hour before noon, having seen only one person, I think a hunter. On the way back I could not stop thinking about the Ivanssons starting the yard, working there, living there. I thought about life and death and the meaning of all we try and do….

When I was young, I always wanted to start a junkyard myself, but I never made it.  Furthermore it was my first stay in Sweden, first encounter with Swedish people, altogether a very quick, but very intense experience.”
